Second Lady Usha Vance is inviting students in grades K-8 to jump into her Summer Reading Challenge and make this a summer full of stories! From June 1 through September 4, students who read 12 books can earn prizes and a chance to visit Washington D.C. From fiction to history, biographies to mysteries, every book opens the door to something new — and every book counts. Ready to begin? Visit WH.gov/read to sign up and learn more. We encourage you to cheer on the young readers in your life by sharing this opportunity.

This national effort is designed to:

  • Keep kids engaged in reading throughout the summer
  • Prevent learning loss during months away from school
  • Build strong literacy foundations early
  • Inspire a lifelong love of reading

By encouraging consistent reading habits, the Summer Reading Challenge helps children stay on track academically while also supporting their overall growth and development.

Let’s work together to ensure every child keeps learning, growing, and thriving—this summer and beyond.
