St. Martin Parish Library Announces Food for Fines Drive
This holiday season, St. Martin Parish Library is working to fight hunger by hosting a Food for Fines Drive from December 1 through December 30, 2024. The goal of the drive is to collect food, raise awareness about hunger prevention, and bring the community together. Food collection bins will be available at all St. Martin Parish Library branches. Donations may be dropped off at any branch during regular hours of operation. All donations will benefit local food pantries in St. Martin Parish.
Library patrons can have overdue fines waived in exchange for food donations. One food item is equivalent to a $1 reduction in fines, with each library card holder eligible to have up to $10 in fines waived. Please note that only overdue fines are eligible for forgiveness; replacement card fees and lost item fees are not waived.
Donation Guidelines:
• $1 waived = 1 can of food, 1 box of food, 1 pack of coffee, 1 bottle of oil, 1 toiletry item, or 1 bag of beans/nuts/dried fruit
• $5 waived = 6-pack or larger of toilet paper, bottled water, diapers, or paper towels
Through annual food and fund drives, over 500 organizations across south Louisiana help raise one million meals for community members. With the support of the community, St. Martin Parish Library hopes to contribute to this effort during the Food for Fines Drive. Even if you don’t have library fines, please consider donating to this important cause and help make a difference in our community this holiday season.
